janggling transfer case

Hi,
I had the same problem a few years ago. The oil pump bracket had fatigued and snapped. It pulled the oil pickup pipe off and was spinning around on the shaft making a horrendous noise.
Fortunately I had a spare transfer case so i fitted that, the old one is still awaiting rebuild. I tried my local Iveco dealer for parts but they only listed the complete transfer case! I would think parts would be available from a gearbox specialist but I have yet to investigate.
If you go down the rebuild path I would be interested to know how you get on.
Good luck
Andy

Hi,
I've not had much luck finding a replacement transfer case so far, so i'm looking at doing a rebuild.
I had a chat with the local dealer, the internal parts are listed as available, but on back order, and the prices are eyewatering! i had been quoted £170 for one cv joint boot before christmas...

I'm looking at other places to get bits, I'll let you know how i get on

Andy: If all you need is the oil pump have a look for borg warner 13-56 from a ford bronco, they are quite common in the states

re: checking inside transfer box

marky116:
I'd rather not get into telling people what to do, however:
I've been advised that faults with these transfer boxes are rare, usually caused by bad maintenance, such as not checking the oil level
In my case a previous owner had the transfer box rebuilt by some "experts"
who have a lot to answer for...

To get to the offending pump, you'd need to remove the transfer box from the van, (I unbolted mine from the back of the gearbox in situ), then strip it down on the bench, the bracket is a small folded steel item, which in theory can be ordered from your local dealer

My advice is:
Don't try this at home, unless you've got experience rebuilding gearboxes.
Having seen the mess that was inside mine, make sure yours is filled with the right type and quantity of nice clean oil.
The workshop manuals for the 4x4 daily are available on ebay
