AT Electrics upgrade

Has anyone upgraded their AT's amp output ? RD04

I dont plan on going to crazy with the electrics, just a 12v take off, for charging a telephone; gps, 100w headlight bulb, second cooling fan and second horn...........

Can I just buy a higher output battery or is there another trick ? can I check the condition / output of my alternator...

Many thanks Matt

GWW, I reckon you will need to get a new stator and maybe upgraded rectafier as well.. I had to when i did my XTZ ..but i am no expert on these things. I would got to XRV.org and ask there (I know you are a memeber) and amybe PM jenna/Kymmy as they have posted stators for the AT before i just cant find it...
Cheers
Xander

You could also get your existing stator out and send it for a re-wind with finer wire - more turns = more output. Check that your rectifier will handle it or get an electrex replacement, remember that you are not getting a replacement AT rectifier though.

I was wondering about fitting a second battery to my Cagiva and a charge splitter so that one is reserved for ignition and starter motor, and the other runs alll auxillary electrics. You can then fit a charge splitter that will not pass current to the aux battery until the primary is fully charged - would be a nice backup but have only ever seen this system on campervans......

Lightbulb elefant electrics

Henry,
have you put HD electric truck cables on battery to engine earth, and starter to solenoid,to battery positive. DDL have these or you can do what i did and get the cables made up by a local autoelectrician.be careful when tightening the startermotor bolt as it's easy to stripthe thread on it,by overtorqueing it,and it was new starter motor for me!
Worth it though as electrics are great now, with no delay between pressing starter button and turnover.Get a voltmeter as well as this'll keep an eye that reg is charging ok.
Any joy with the photos of the fenders? u can text me photos to my mobile if u have a camera phone. am on: 07941130647.
thanks Duncan

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
