Thumbs up Everest Base Camp XR650L Jetting Requirements

Hi guys

Sorry to pester you all but i have a need for info. Here in the Wales or for that matter the UK in general, Honda dont really seem to cater for XR650L's due to them never having been destined in the UK as a market place for selling them.

So Honda parts dealers prefer saying "Sorry Computer says NO!" Seems to be easier than actually asking the network of Gurus within the Global company structure they work for for the correct information!!

So again...I'm back to asking you...and am very grateful if anyone can supply the correct information.

So am going to ride up to Everest Basecamp in 2019 on a XR650L ...(not sure of age but would suggest around 2000 model) and i need to know what sort of jetting i will need to install for this 17,600 feet ride?

If anyone has any information at all or indeed a prejetted carb then please do let me know. If there is anything else i will need for the XR650L other than the carb jetting requirements then again Please let me know

Many thanks

Christian

Hi

I've done a lot of work on these bikes. I have all the jets and have tried all sizes.

At altitude you are going to have a lack of Oxygen. So the bike will run a tad rich. But as these bikes are jetted lean as standard so it might not be an issue at all. They should really be re-jetted from standard to get the best out of them.

Now, I have to admit I've never taken a 650L to altitude so I can't confirm this.

You will get years of endless information about jetting XR650L's on Thumpertalk.com forums.

You could also read this and contact Chris. He is in the Andes now on a XR650L

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
