Prepare your Dommie better than I did!
Have riden from alaska and am at present stuck in quito hoping to get to argentina. i am using a 92 dominator with 52,000 miles on the clock. i thought would be ideal for the trip but started to doubt it in vancouver when it dropped a valve seat and wrecked lots of other parts in the process. 10,000 miles later it has done it again except the valve thankfully avoided hitting the piston. talking to various mechanics this problem is not that uncommon. i guess i overheated it and seeing as i have no temp gauge fitted and no oil cooler this may make sense. also i have probably blown the CDI which is a common fault also according to the auto electrician who has worked on quite a few dommies. i am posting this not to slag off the dommie just to warn others planning to use one that there are a few problems with this bike that can be avoided through modifications and carrying a spare CDI. good luck and i hope your dommie isnt as much of a pig as mine!

Hi
I aggree with you regarding the CDI unit, I have also a Domi 93 with 46000 km and I had to change alrady the CDI, the problem is that sometimes is not easy to find right CDI four your bike, because I think that honda used 3 differents CDI for the dominator.
Good luck in your trip!!
Buena suerte!

Hi all.
Yes there is a known problem with the RFVC 600/650 engine,in particular the cylinder head cracking due to excessive overheating.Seems to be caused by standing in traffic/stationary with the engine running after a long run when everything is stinking hot.The cracks usually run from the two exhaust valve seats to the central spark plug hole, and when they get bad enough the valve seats drop out.Unfortunatly the only real soloution to this is a new cylinder head, though i've been told it can sometimes be welded at great cost.I decided to bite the bullet and go for a new head,as i'd rather not have the hassle of it happening again.I am now very wary of switching the motor off if it's stationary for even a short while,as i'd rather spend the £550 on my next trip....

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
