Scottish xl 600 lmf
Hi i'm new to the forum and in need of some advice , 1986 xl 600 lmf french import. It only runs when it wants , on trying to start it fires up but as soon as you release the starter button it stops, it will not kick start either at this point. It will take revs if you keep the button pushed for a second but stops when released.Next day it fires an kicks and idles like a gem. Yesterday it cut out on me for a split second a couple of times which is not handy in an overtake ! must be electrical ? any idea's anybody , I saw a thread from a jonstobbs is he still on the go ? he seemed to know this model very well . any advice would be great . cheers

Go over every inch of the wire loom and look for any spot that has worn through or broken. Lightly pull on each wire going into any connections to see if any pull out easily. Also take the starter switch on the handlebar apart and clean up good, look for any bad connections or places where it could be grounding out. It sounds like the ignition is being ground, just like a dirt bike that you push in a kill button to shut it down.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
