XR650R road legal in the USA?
I have two options I'm looking into a) buy a TDM850 here in Europe or b) buy a new XR650R from a dealer in the USA , register it there, and travel around for a month. So question is, is the XR road legal out of the shop? I will buy the bike in Minnesota and ride it to New York.
I have an address in NJ I can use, but it's only a mailbox address, do I need to go to NJ with the bike to register it? Or can I get an preliminary address from the dealer while travelling around? What about insurance, which companies do yopu recommend? I intend to ship the bike home after the trip.
I am posting this in the North America section as well, sorry about that!

I am not from the US but....
I think to get that bike legal you need that Baja set(just one option) with indicators, new mask with beams, and break ligth among other stuff.Dont know about the exhaust.
Why dont you ask at Thumpers - ADVrider
I think this is a good place to ask too.
Good luck
Karl

About the XR650R and legalities in the USA
But once the bike is registered, it can be taken anywhere and registered as a road legal bike.

I am buying a brand new 2007 (last year they're made) xr650r from a dealership here in AZ. It is street legal and the bottom line price is about $6000 US. GREAT DEAL. Your US Honda dealership should be able to hook you up as there are some great sale incentives through Honda for this particular bike. Let me know if you need help.

I have a 2002 that Id sell you. Titled and ready to go. You can see it here:
2002 XR650R for sale or trade??!! - ADVrider
$3200 is more than fair and you should be able to recoupe most if not all or more of that when you leave. Its in Colorado though so youd have to fly in here. I can pick you up at the airport.

xr650r
Hello guys, and thanks for the response! Much appreciated! Seems the XR project is off :-(
My car broke down (gearbox and headgasket++), so I need to fix it or eventually get a new. I use it in work, so I can't do without. So thats is where my $ goes. And I have to take my future (hopefully) girlfriend to dinner++
