Breakfast and lunch option for Sunday 5th October

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that the Beaudesert Hospital Auxilary will be catering for Sunday 5th October for breakfast and lunch. We don't have a menu yet but its is on the same basis as for the scouts on Saturday on a pay-as-you-go arrangement. So plenty of fuss-free food options across the weekend.

Congratulations to Scott for his ongoing work in this area.

Final Discount Period

Hi everyone,

We are down to the final six month run to what I hope will be the biggest HU event in Australia so far and will be one to be remembered.

Just a reminder that we have an early bird policy. Discounts offered previously for those registered and paid were:

31 Jan 2014 $50.00 (saving $45.00)

1 Feb 2014 to 31 Mar 2014 $65.00 (saving $30.00 )

Now those dates have come and gone, but there is still a chance to save a few dollars. Currently, for anyone who registers and pays between 1 April 2014 to 26 Sep 2014 the cost is $75.00 each, saving $20.00 each. Remember that there are t-shirt, food and camping options at additional cost. Whilst these are entirely optional and its whatever works for you, please remember that t-shirts and dinners must be pre-ordered and there are cut-off dates for these.

So log onto http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/queensland-2014 and get registered!

One of the post event things from last year's meeting I was slow to get done was to buy and read a copy of Monica Joseph's book Keep Moving. Monica was one of our presenters from 2013.

Finally did it and glad I did. Recommend it to anyone contemplating an overland journey by bike. Available from the Book Depository and well worth the read.

QLD Moto Park

Hi everyone,

About 20 minutes out from Beaudesert along the Beaudesert - Boonah road is QLD Moto Park. I dropped out there today and yes it has the usual motorcross and freestyle tracks but more importantly it has a range of trail/enduro tracks. So whilst you are up for the meeting if you want to sharpen your off-road skills, this may be worth a look. Here's their website:

Queensland Moto Park - Home

I asked how hard/easy the enduro tracks were and was told that a DRZ400 rider would love them. It is fairly hard and rough in parts, there isn't a lot of topsoil in that part of the world. They have had a couple of BMW GS1200 riders go through and whilst they made it, found it hard going. So it sounds just fine to me and I'll be looking for a riding partner for a test on my DR800 sometime after June.

Dualsport Australia DVD

Hi everyone,

For those of you coming up from down south with a bit of time to spare and explore the regions nearby, you may wish to have agood look at this DVD:

Dualsport Australia Vol 1 – The Great Divide | dualsportaustralia

I was up at Dalby Moto and saw it on display and picked up a copy. Real glad that I did as it contains a heap of maps, GPS coordinates etc for northern NSW. Having gone through much of the area on roadbikes and a little bit off-road, I was very pleased to see something like this that will help me explore this region. I've had a good look at the contents and it looks like it delivers. Can't wait to start exploring.

You can also order through Vince Strang Motorcycles at:

VSM Vince Strang Motorcycles DR650 Shop

Scroll down to the DVD section to find it.

Regards,

Shane

HU Brisbane 'a day in the dirt' - Sunday 17 June 2014

On Sunday a group of budding adventure riders set out from CJ's pastries at Woodford to a secret location for a day in the dirt.

We all had a great day learning new skills and consolidating old skills. Full credit to everyone who attended and especially Scott who organised the day and lead us through thinks and thin.

A video of the ride can be found here: HU Novice Day 17 June 2014 - YouTube

Although we will be on the showgrounds and won't have access to mudholes, we plan on running a really good skills session at the HU Beaudesert meeting.

First Aid presentation

Hi everyone,

Just received news that Fiona from Wilderness First Aid Consultants will be coming up to deliver a first aid presentation. I met Fiona at the Adventure Travel Film Festival and I am certain that her presentation will be both informative and entertaining.

To date we have had first aid presentations from a GP in 2012, Sarah Taylor - an incredibly skilled paramedic in 2013 and now Fiona is joining us. I'm very grateful to all of them and with the different presentation styles over the years, we should all be able to take care of the basics, at least I hope so.

Hope to see you all there.

Regards,

Shane

Volunteers for Beaudesert needed

Looking for volunteers. We are short a few key organisers and putting the word out:

Event photographers. We need one or two good shooters to help record the event and build our portfolio and online presence. It is a great way to meet people.

Registration Desk. We need some volunteers to work two hour shifts at registration to ensure that everyone gets signed in and know what they need to know.

Setup and cleanup crews. Not sure how much work is required here, but setup starts at 10:00 Am on Friday 3 October 2014 and cleanup on Monday 6 October 2014.

If you are interested in helping with any of these roles, please let us know. Thanks.

Registration for Beaudesert

Hi everyone,

Just a prompt - OK, how about a big PUSH!

If you are bcoming to Beaudesert, we would really like to see your registration soon. We are reaching the point where we need to give rough numbers to catering and local charity groups who are helping us out. So whilst its not essential to register online before hand, it does REALLY help.

Hope to see lots of you'all there.

Regards,

Shane

Lions TT

Some of you may have heard about the Lions TT event and the fact that the dates clash.

Unfortunately we had our event locked in and all booked since December last year. The main guys behind the Lions TT were not aware of HU Beaudesert despite our fairly big marketing push; we've had articles in just about every bike magazine you can think of. Regardless, I've met with them and the Lions TT sounds like a great event and hopefully will go really well.

So we are trying to work out how we can best work in with the Lions TT for this year and next year will probably change our event to early in the year. Its possible that people can visit the Lions TT for a few hours as well as our event for a day. Even use our camping space for accomodation.

Given that we have had the same format for quite a few years, we are also thinking about a different format in 2015 but that is still some time away.

Fingers crossed that it all comes off. Hope to see you'all at Beaudesert; if not for the entire event, for one or two days.

Thanks,

Shane

Another day in the dirt. Saturday 6 September 2014

Hi everyone,

We are going to hold another dirt skills day, Saturday 6 September 2014. Meet at "The Place 2 be Cafe" at Mount Mee at 9:00 for breakfast. After Breakfast Scott will lead us to a location where we can review our respective dirt skills and learn some more, finishing with a ride through some of the local forestry. Finish by 1:00 PM. After that you may ride through some more forestry, drop by one of the many cafes or pubs for lunch or head home to clean your bike.

This is our last event until the HU Beaudesert travellers meeting. and this is a great chance to learn some new skills and consolidate old ones. Look forward to seeing plenty of you there.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
