Hello All
I'm spending extra days on the island and looking for suggested gravel roads or easy trails suitable for a R1200 GSA with street tires and a feeble rider.
Prior to the event I have planned some asphalt running around Corner Brook and Lark Harbour, but need suggestions for areas to ride post the HU event.
thanks
brian

Hi Brian, I'm Krista, the Registration Crew Leader for HU Newfoundland 2022. Many of our trails here are more suited to ATV's and small dual-sports than large ADV bikes, but one gravel road I would recommend is the one that runs from the Burgeo Highway (Route 480) along Lloyd's River and the coast of Red Indian Lake. We rode it a few years ago on Vstroms and it was in great condition then. If you want more info (marked-up maps, etc), contact me by clicking on my name.
Safe travels and looking forward to meeting you!

This is wonderful news. I am seriously thinking of attending this meeting as I am a fan of HU, I've been to a few but my favorite was in South Africa. I am hoping other travelers from the US attend as these meetings are always a pleasure. I plan on trailering my new miniMoto as I will be taking a tiny little Honda Trail CT125 also known as the Hunter Cub. Sure I can ride it there but I want to stay a bit longer during this trip and use my roof tent on the van for accommodations to stay in other campgrounds on the island. The bike is very small and I have not carried camping gear on it, yet!! Newfoundland is very cold as I experienced before on the bike. Are there any other travelers attending from the US trailering their bike? I am riding from Massachusetts and trying to decide if I will take the northern longer route Trans-Labrador Highway or the Nova Scotia route via Maine.... Thank you in advance for any feedback. Administrators, if my post needs to be in another thread, please do not hesitate to move it. Thank you, Missrider.

Good to hear that not everyone is on Facebook! NOT my favourite place.

Grant, thank you for sending us to FaceBook for updates. I joined the group but there is so much junk posted there that is not relevant to updates on the Newfoundland event. Is there another group specifically for this event? Thank you for your prompt response, Missrider.

Yes, there is an HU NL Facebook Group!
Also of course the HU NL Facebook Event page.
And most importantly the Event page itself for Presenter etc updates. If you have registered for the event OR added yourself to the Event Updates list, (NO need to do both, it all becomes one list) you will receive an occasional update as needed.
Re junk on the HU Group page - just not relevant to NL, or real junk? Please report anything that shouldn't be there - we have moderators around the world, but they can't catch everything, so as always we rely on you the reader to report any problem anywhere to do with HU. Thanks for helping out!

Note the date change, which we were hoping for, and is now CONFIRMED!
Announcing the 1st HU Newfoundland Travellers Meeting, in a great riding area on the south shore of Bonne Bay, near Gros Morne National Park in western Newfoundland. David Moores, our local host, says the area boasts hiking, history, wildlife, unique food, culture and especially music.
For adventure riding, there's the T'Railway Provincial Park, a linear reserve of some 883 km., developed and maintained along the abandoned rail line for motorcycles, snow machines and more.
Registration is open now with early bird rates. https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ev...gistration.php
UPDATE 2022
We are "pretty confident" all is well and we'll be able to hold the event this year, FINALLY!
UPDATE 2021:We know you are wondering whether Horizons Unlimited events are going ahead as planned, and how that may affect your own travel decisions. Your health and well-being are our top priorities, so please take care of yourself and your family.
We are working with our local organising teams and event venues, and monitoring regional and global developments, including travel bans and restrictions on events. Decisions will be made together with the local organising team and announced as far in advance as possible.
This event is currently going ahead as planned.
This may change at any moment, so stay in touch through the HUBB forum or social media. We will be providing updates on the 1st and 15th of every month, OR as needed. Stay updated here: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/covid
Please direct your questions to: events-c@horizonsunlimited.com
Or post general comments of interest to the event on this thread.
We will send emails announcing changes only to everyone already registered for an event with all needed details.
Thanks for your understanding in this difficult time.

Couple general questions.
Considering traveling to event from U.S.. Some ground border crossing related questions. I see the Canadian Federal guidelines on CBC website have temporarily removed 72 hour requirement for PCR COVID test for vaccinated traveller. Last year, I remember provinces each had their own COVID guidelines. New Brunswick defaulted to Federal guidelines and Nova Scotia required had some registration like ArrivCan. No testing. Does entering Newfoundland from Nova Scotia ( New Sydney ) have specific app and testing requirement?
Atlantic Maritime Ferry question ( from North Sydney, Nova Scotia ) to Pro Aux Basque, NL. I see there are two sailing options per day. One around noon and other midnight ( 11:15 p.m. ). I guess if you take the noon ferry, you have to find a room somewhere in Port Aux Basque? To avoid moose crossings. If you take the midnight ferry from North Sydney, what the heck do you do waiting around all evening to catch ferry?
Thanks.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
