Travellers Meeting CA, food options for vegetarians?
Hi
This will be our first HU event. We've been trying to get some info on food options for vegetarians but haven't received any responses to our queries yet. We're planning on being there from Friday afternoon through Sunday. It looks like there is a place to select that you are a vegetarian when picking your food, but there are no description of what the vegetarian menu is like.
So we haven't picked any food options yet. Can anyone give me some info on this? Are the options for vegetarians merely decent or actually good? Should we plan on bringing our own food and eating in town on the second and third day?
Thanks for any helpful info you can give us.
Derek

Hi Derek,
I'd like to give you a good response, but can't guarantee anything, other than the caterer tries hard and generally does pretty well. I'm sure you can do better in town, but it's a lot of hassle and time lost, and will be more expensive - Mariposa is a tourist attraction and is NOT cheap! Also you'll miss out on the conversations over meals, which are a big part of "connecting" with other travellers - I've been told that the meal time and campfire conversations are the best part of it all!
You have to make your own decision as to whether it's worth some risk that it won't be optimal, or miss out. I like to think of it as "training for travel" - you never know what you're going to get, so you learn to roll with it
FWIW - I was a vegetarian when we left Canada in 1987 - and by the time I got to southern Mexico, gave it up. Today it's much better for veggie travellers, fortunately.

Grant, thanks for the info. I registered for my wife and myself. There has been a problem in that I only received one receipt (for my wife). I've been trying to reach you to figure out what to do. I can't PM you privately here. What is the best way to reach someone to figure out how to proceed?

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
