HUMM (Andalucia) and HU Spain 2009

After Grant suggested we should consider doing a HUMM in Andalucia, we're going to do a one-day special event at next year's HU Spain meeting which could possibly, maybe, become an annual two-day event.

I've been plotting the off-road trails we already know on Google Earth - the shortest is 9km and the longest about 68kms. Adding a few more kms on-road to join the trails up and I'm already at almost 350kms of off-road tracks taking you through forests, natural parks, dry river beds and moonscapes, and I haven't plotted them all yet! Every trail is within a 32 km radius of the campsite (as the crow flies).

Now I'm looking for suggestions and ideas for what riders want. How many kms do you want to ride in a day? How easy or difficult do you want the trails (define easy/difficult)? Do you want to ride through a picturesque landscape or do you just want to be off-road? Sorry, the one thing we can't do in September is mud, but lots of dust is guaranteed. And to make it fair for everyone, every trail is, and will be, rideable on our XT's without knobblies.

I've started a new web album here - Picasa Web Albums - Dakota - HUMM (Andaluc... - there's photos and videos from the 130kms off-road we did last weekend. These are the easy trails - keep checking back to see the others as we ride them.

I'll also be plotting a on-road route for road bikes in the not too distant future, so if anybody has any suggestions there, they would also be welcome.

And while I'm here - any volunteers for presentations next year?? Yeah, ok, I know I'm a bit ahead of myself, but there's no harm in asking.

HUMM (Andalucia) 2009

The Wife has been messing about with a new video editor and came up with a brief introduction to some of the easier trails for the HUMM Andalucia 2009.

Its still in the planning process, but things are looking really positive at the moment and we will be posting videos for the more difficult trails and on-road event in the near future.

Talking I want it ard!

Great video Alison!
I personally would like to be challenged, but I agree it should be be suitable for bikes without knobblies. If it is a HUMM you can always set more than required as people will do as much as they can ( I guess it is the idea to pick up hidden markers?). The tracks around you are awesome and fast so a long ride will be great, will we be in teams? I cant specify an exact distance because I have never done one before, but longer than that ride we did this year, I think it was the 2nd day? Good work guys, I do hope I can make it down next year.
regards

Hi David

Hope it's a bit drier around your way now. We got to 28C yesterday but it was 2C when I got up this morning. At least the sun is shining again.

The HUMM will be run the same as the Pyrenean HUMM, más o menos, but I guess the scenery will be a bit different. There will be an on-road and an off-road version. So far, we've got about 300-350kms off-road and 1000kms on-road.

The off-road version will take you on trails from 10kms long to more than 60kms and we've tried to join them all up so you'll be on-road for less than 10% of the course. You'll be travelling through Natural Parks (a small section of the course will be on the tracks you rode with us), through dry river beds, around lakes, up a mountain pass and everything in between.

The on-road version will take you from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to west of Ronda and will have a 'Lakes & Castles' theme. There are so many twisties on this course you'll be screaming out for a straight bit of road!

Yes, you'll be looking for hidden markers, together with clues from a significant 'monument' if we can't place a marker in that area. All but one of the tracks so far has been done without knobblies and that's the way we're trying to keep it, but you know what Spain is like, it has a mesh of tracks every 50 yards, so if you want something a bit more technical, I'm sure you can find something.

We appreciate it's a long way for some people to come, so if we run this just before the HU meeting we can make it into a 4-5 day event. I'm still trying to negotiate with a certain somebody over shipping bikes down here for anybody wanting to come down from the UK again, especially if people can't get a lot of time off work.

We hope to see you here again David, and we're still planning that trip to Morocco, one day!!

Hasta luego.

Hi David

The HU meeting is 11-13 September and we're looking to do the HUMM just before that, hopefully making it a 5 day event. If you're planning for a longer stay this time, can we put you down as a volunteer for the HU meeting .

Hope you and your family have a great Christmas. Feliz Fiestas!

Hi,

Steve and I are also looking to head to Morocco Next year.

Good news is that we will also have the Bikes to be able to cope with it having just purchased 2 F800GS's.

This also means we can probably join in the HUMM as well.

Hi Sara

I guarantee you'll have fun riding off road. Elle is going to be soooo disappointed - she still goes on about how great it was being on the back of speedy sports bikes . Have fun with them and we'll see you in September.

Question Rentals

Hi Alison & Andy
belated new years greetings!
Did you notice that they are making rental bikes available for Mountain Madness HUMM. I thought that as it is Locoformotos which I believe is base near Malaga, right near your location! it might be worth looking at making them available for your meeting and HUMM, then people could fly down and pick up a hire bike if they so wished?? What do you think?

Are you thinking of Morocco in April??
regards
David
