Here is a post By Chris the rider of the Africa Twin.
Well it sure was a weekend of ‘whoops and downs’
Saturday saw the three groups head off. Basil led our group using his extensive knowledge of the area to cover a lot of ground in a mixture of weather conditions including very strong cross winds.
A little bit of sunshine at the end of Red Lane
For me that was the hardest trail of the day on my Africa Twin. The ruts were just too deep and narrow and dragged my feet off the pegs (and the sole off my boot).
A big thank you to the guys who helped me pick up the beast when she needed a lay down!
The day ended riding the last two trails in the dark which focused the mind!
After a Saturday evening sampling the excellent local bitter, Sunday started downhill.
Well it did after Dazzer led us on a short hike uphill;
We then went under the hill for a spot of caving;
Then it was back on the bikes for a run to the cafe, then out on the hills again;
Then the weather closed in and we met the sleet head on as we climbed the final hill of the day. The slippery conditions made it interesting.
Whoops!
After a hug and some reassurance that the bike would be ok, Ela saw the funny side.
The bike was patched up and we headed back to the bunkhouse.
Cheers to Basil, Dazzer and Craig for making this happen. It was great to meet so many new people from around the country and I look forward to the next meet.
