Excellent Presentations- Video Production

Firstly, just a quick thanks to all for the Ripley meet. My first, but not my last for sure. Very inspirational and useful from inspiring stories to technical info and loads of good crack!

I sat through a very useful presentation on video production and would love to get my hands on the information regarding editing software. I have a newly aquired solid state camers at my work and we want to make some short films.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Go to this site for a review of video editing software. I use Corel's VideoStudio, which suits me well.

A good source to buy is from Amazon.co.uk.

You can incorporate some fairly decent transitional and other special effects during the editing process. Here's an example of an amateur video I created a while back using VideoStudio: NJSTOC 2007 - The Movie. [NB - Shame that Google Video compresses the final rendered version so much - which always reduces the on-line quality .. ]

I've also heard that CyberLink's PowerDirector is good editing software too.

A word in your ear: You might find - like me - that the initial learning curve for video editing software is very, very steep indeed; ball-breakingly frustrating, to be precise. BUT keep at it, then suddenly ..
it all just seems to make sense, almost overnight! .. .. that's what I found anyway.

Cheers, and good luck

KEITH

Thanks Keith,

Your right about the learning curve. Time to shed off the technophobe attitude me thinks!

Regards,

Matt

video editing software

Hi Matt,

I gave one of the video presentations. Johan the other. So, what you want depends upon whether you are doing quick and topical uploads on the road, or your magnum opus upon return. Talk to Johan if the former, me about the latter. Also, are you a PC or Mac guy? If you have a mac then you don't really need to buy anything - the software that comes free with the machine is more than adequate. If you are a PC person, well, that's sad, but you'll probably do just fine with the recommendations made earlier in this thread. There are some cheaper options - there is a really good cnet review of some cheap and cheerful packages - just look on cnet and you'll find it easy enough. PM me if you like, and I'll sort you out.

Best,

Mike

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
