Touratech sponsorship

We're delighted to announce that Touratech in Germany and the UK are supporting the HUBB UK event as sponsors of the north and west camping fields. They'll also have a stand in the Adventure Travel Zone.

Hi Tabbi,

When I rode from Mansfield (near Donington) to Turkey I went through Germany.

I left home Friday midday, caught the Eurotunnel train Friday evening and camped Friday night in Belgium. I was at Nuerburgring by Saturday afternoon.

If you know where you want to explore I will search some campsites for you

Cheers, Simon

Fantastic!!! Just 70 days to go. Have a look at the HUBB UK page. New presenters are up!

And it's still just £65 for the four days if you book and pay before the 12th of June. This is the same rate for the third year running and that is in spite of all the inevitable rising costs.

Thanks very much to the companies who have helped us to achieve this by stumping up some loot to sponsor the different areas of the Donington HUBB UK venue.

The companies do deserve a word of thanks for helping to make this happen. So, Adventure Spec, Code Audio Visual, Touratech, Continental, Cotswold, Pure Bike Tours and new in, Rev'it! Thanks to you all!!!

And while posting. Some more brilliant news. Kevin Turner is going to be joining all the authors and film makers and is going to be launching his brand new book at the HUBB UK.

Did you know that The Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel – the venue for the HUBB UK again this year – has a really good Green Ambition? Check this out and you’ll see what I mean. Just another reason to feel good about us being there! And some history about Park Farm too:

‘Park Farmhouse is part of what remains of the Donington Estate, which was broken up after the army returned it to the Shields family in 1956, having taken it over in 1939 for the war effort. Donington Hall and the race track were no longer viable and had to be sold off.

It took seven years to clear the scrap metal from the rest of the land before it could be used for Agriculture. What was able to be salvaged has now been moulded into what we hope is a sustainable and inter-dependent enterprise.

The Deer Park is now larger & contains some 350 head of deer. This is a truly wild herd, with no human intervention allowed. All the venison is butchered and used on the Estate. The park is a SSSI, which means that no chemicals or fertilizer are applied to the land. The park is famous for its collection of ancient Oak trees and the invertebrates that live in them. All new trees are planted from our own acorns, and the park is actively managed with the help of Natural England.

The 150 acres of woodlands are managed under a 20 year plan with the Forestry Commission. The idea is to produce a sustainable supply of timber to heat & supply hot water for the entire Hotel complex through a district heating scheme, replacing 9 existing boiler systems which currently use oil & gas. The boiler house is now completed and the first phase of the scheme has proved successful in July 2012.

In 2010 we acquired the field opposite the Hotel. In this we have put a septic tank, which replaces six existing tanks, which will be converted to hold surface water for the gardens.

We have built three reed beds, which filter the Hotel dirty water, returning it to the Spring as clean, usable water. They are also a haven for wildlife.
In 2011 we installed 46 solar panels, which now provide daily electricity for the function and conference barns. We also appointed new waste contractors, and now not just the glass, but all our non-food waste is re-cycled.

The Hotel itself is run with practical green policies in mind. There are plans to replace all lighting systems with LED lighting in the future and to compost all of the Hotel’s food waste.’

And that's why when you arrive, you'll be handed bags for your waste. One for stuff that can't be recycled and one for everything that can. We can all do our bit too!

Latest news is that the list of presenters has just been updated. There’s a stack of new presenters lined up. Zebb Penman, James Davis, Bruce Porter, Tony Ingles, Jasper Ditton, Anna McNuff, Patrick Cruywagen, Elaine Clark, and Tiffany Coates.

We are going to be spoilt for choice! Whatever you want to learn about or be inspired by, we think the amazing list of presenters will help you out!

And while here we would like to thank Adventure Spec, Code Audio Visual, Touratech, Continental Tyres, Cotswold Outdoor and Pure Bike Tours for their help with sponsoring space at the HUBB UK. Their help is why we've been able to keep the fee for HUBB UK passes at the same rate for three years running! Thanks everyone!

Now here's a request that some of you guys will be interested in methinks. It comes from the guys at The Adventure & Travel cinema, who are going to be with us for the first time.

The Adventure & Travel Cinema was set up as an attraction for adventure and travel shows throughout the UK. The primary idea is to give people an opportunity to show their film work to a wider audience for free. We take full length documentaries but also short films.

Many people have some amazing adventures but don't get enough footage to make a full documentary and we feel people are missing out on some great stuff! We hope this cinema will give people the opportunity to see these films and be inspired! If you know of anyone who might have a film to submit for the Cinema, either long or short, please let us know. tom@geekmedialtd.com

I had an email this morning from a chap I've not met yet. He asked why I go travelling when there's so much to see in my own country. I have to agree with him but perhaps he ought to be coming to the HUBB UK. Then he'll find out why we all buzz about travel. I've invited him and sent him this shot from Vietnam to be going on with.

Iain, question Sir

Hi Iain, I am in the Merchant Navy and have booked and paid for Donnington park for the full weekend, I have been informed that I may have to go on another ship. If this is the case, I may not make the meet, I paid via PayPal, if I cannot be there is the money refundable.
Best regards
Jake.

Smile HU Refunds Policy

Hi Jake,

We do have a refund policy, apologies it's not as prominent as it might be! Here it is:
"HU Events Refund Policy

We know 'stuff happens', and you know we have financial commitments to venues and caterers!
If you're unable to attend an event, please let us know (by e-mail reply to your confirmation e-mail from us) so we don't worry that something has happened to you...
Up to 30 days prior to event start, we will refund all fees in full less a $10 (or €9 or £8) fee for handling and PayPal charges.
Up to 15 days prior to event start, we will refund camping/accommodation and food packages in full less a $10 (or €9 or £8) handling fee. We will apply your registration fee to any subsequent HU event in the year or following year. If you have purchased a t-shirt, let us know your mailing address and we'll send it out.
Within 15 days of the event start, there will be no refunds, but we will apply your registration fee to any subsequent HU event in the year or following year. If you have purchased a t-shirt, let us know your mailing address and we'll send it out."
What that all means for HUBB UK is that you have until 30 days prior to the event to get a refund (less £8 for Paypal and admin costs). After that, we'll happily put your reg fee to any HU event in 2014 or 2015 (Enniskillen or Haggs Bank, for example!) You just let us know when you're registering that you're carrying forward your HUBB UK fee.

Hope that helps, and fingers crossed that you're able to get to Donington!
Cheers,
Susan

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
