Recent Trip to Iceland
I recently returned from Iceland. I travelled from the UK, took the 2 day ferry from demark to Iceland.
I was travelling alone so mainly stuck to the ring road, although I did travel on some gravelly side roads and there is some kilometres of gravel on the ring road.
I used continental tkc 70s and they were fine, no issues at all. As far as travelling the ring road its relatively straightforward and loads to see as you go round, different and more dramatic scenery round every corner.
not every one was on an adventure bike , some were on Harleys and one German lady was on a sports bike with sports tyres. she made it round as I spoke to her on the return ferry trip, although she said next time she said she would go on a more adventure style bike.
The biggest problem I experienced was the wind which can be quite brutal.
I did speak to someone whos uncle was blown off the road and also to a chap who friend had been flown home after hitting some deep gravel and coming off ,so just take it steady in wind or on gravelly road. Also try not to overload with stuff on the bike. Loads of camp sites as you go round, and if want guest houses book in advance.
I can really recommend Iceland , great trip and fantastic riding.

How was the food?
Except Reygjavik...In the country side/ring road, is easy to find a super market or restaurants?

food
Hi,
Food was fine, less expensive hot dogs in petrol stations, although hot soup or pasta was I found best on the road. in the larger towns nice fish and meat depending on what you want to spend, nothings cheap. I had some really nice fish.
I stuck mainly to ring road and came across petrol stations (all petrol pumps are automatic so credit card important) and supermarkets without any problem. there are good stretches of road with nothing, but great views, so just make the most of the ones you come across.
On the occasions I did venture down the gravelly side roads there wasn't much in the way of shops, and no petrol stations so if you do go down the smaller roads just have a decent amount of petrol and the odd snacks.
Its a fantastic trip, you'll really enjoy it
Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
