Any experiences of the Happy Trail / Drive Line Services SU
I'm thinking of getting the Something Unique rack from Happy Trail / Drive Line Services.
Anyone have any experience of this rack? What sort of loading (kg) will it reliably take?
Thanks
Grant March

I am very happy with mine. Have the metal panniers crammed full, very heavy, no problems.
Did hit a lampost in Mexico, though, and the pannier mounting `puck` got bent.
Last month's crash bent the right hand side quite badly, but am confident it can be straightened and welded.

I have the SU racks on my XR650L, they're very nice but I haven't been on a serious trip with them yet, as my travel plans for this fall fell through.
Mounting them was a real pain, had to have two people pulling and bending the frame and rack to get it to line up, but otherwise very high quality.
I also got his aluminum panniers, which are also very high quality.
there's info about my getting it set up here: http://www.geocities.com/wwbagwell/
click on the "lugage/racks" link
cheers,

I've just installed Happy Trails SU (special design for Givi panniers, they have a special model # which I forget). I haven't done a trip yet but I love the design, the ease of installation and the service from Tim at Happy Trails.

I've made a couple of trips now with my NW(Happy Trails)rack(11,000 miles Tex. to Panama, Rtn and just finished 5,000 mile Big Bend-Copper Canyon-Mazatlan-Baja Penin-San Diego), and I really feel I made a good choice. Very sturdy, and the 36l Givi bags have not only carried what I needed, but twice now have taken the brunt of falls(1 slide on slick road in Guat., 1 rear quarter car crash). They're great sacrificial fenders, sorta like fenders on a boat, that take the punishment neither you nor your bike want to.--Porter
