Greetings! + Gear shift question
Greetings guys!
I enjoy my road bike (Honda CBF600) but jumped at the chance to acquire a stolen recovered (i.e. somewhat knackered) '95 KLE500.
Despite a rusty frame and swing arm, damaged fairings and a missing bash plate, it has cleaned up reasonably well and I have got the engine running well (after rewiring a lot of badly hacked wiring!)
The problem I have, which may not be a problem) is that I cannot seem to get the bike into 2nd+ gear. Somewhat panicked I checked on the web and I hear this may be intentional. So can anyone enlighten me on how to get this up a cog!
Basically I would like to know, as it will help me decide on whether or not I keep the engine as I do need to replace the starter clutch components (slips badly) and its a toss up between the rebuild kit or a scrap engine with warranty.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Best Regards,
Andrew

I can't see how this is intentional !!
Where did you find that information ??
If the clutch is functioning okay and the actual shift lever is in good order, I cant see any reason apart from a knackered gearbox or knackered selector mechanism.

They called it the Positive Neutral Finder.
So can anyone confirm that when stationary they can get their KLE into 2nd gear in the normal way?

OOOOOOH !!
I thought you meant when running.
Yer.. this is normal to an extent but you should still be able to shift it into second gear if you roll the bike forward.

ted, cheers!
I managed to get it started and took it for a ride, and voila it works. What a strange mechanism, seems like a solution without a problem really.
Im such a numpty, In my eagerness to have something to do this bank holiday weekend I decided to buy the parts to repair the starter clutch on this engine hoping that it would work.
I was also offered a complete 2001 engine and throttle assembly for £175 which I also bought. Seems I will be in possession of 2 working KLE engines!
Still, can never have too many spare parts! I just need to find a rear tyre, rear shock and a chain and I can get it MOTed.
