Help...I'm stranded in Colombia from a doohickey failure...
Hi,
I'm stuck in Colombia, South America. My 2004 KLR had bee knocking alot when accelerating or going up mountain roads, the vibration was getting worse every day.
I got the bike to a mechanic who thought it was a piston rod but it seems to be fine. On inspection we found the balancer chain tensioner spring broken and laying at the bottom of the engine. The cahin was scraping it's guide and worn a part of it down quite a bit.
Could this, in itself be the cause of the knocking and vibration or something else. The noise seemed to be coming more from the lower right side of the engine rather than the lower left which I guess you would expect from the doohickey.
Any advice or a referal to someone who may be able to help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
