klr 650A (USA) - identical to european version apart from bodywork?
My long suffering KLR has been stolen (again) in the UK, after bringing it home from an LA-BA trip in '06. It's been recovered (again), but this time the lovely people who stole it have managed to put a crack in the actual engine barrel. No idea how. Anyway.....
I've found a breaker's yard with 'a KLR engine' in the UK - are the engine parts universal worldwide, until the new 2008 model? Mine's a 2004, and is not the Cali version but the main USA one. Bodywork 'A' (the most common).
Any definitive answers will be really appreciated, as Kawasaki UK just gave me a bored "we don't deal with american models. at all."
The guy at a US Kawasaki dealer who I spoke to on the phone said "what's a barrell?" (so to clarify this, I'm talking about the cylinder; and the piston should be changed too).
Bueno... Who amongst you knows about KLRs, then?

The only differences between the engines (pre '08.. is there even a 08' C model?? I don't think so!) that I'm aware of between the A/B and C models is that on the C, there is an additional coolant feed from the engine to the carb (for carb de-icing purposes).. this doesn't seem to exist on the A or the B. You should be able to get away with an A engine in a C body if u also use the A carb. Thats probably the easiest option..
Check if the engine has the coolant feed to the carb.. if not, it may well be an A or a B engine.. there are a lot of A's knocking about in the UK, and a few C's as well, so it could be either (or even a B, for that matter!).

A: US model
B: Tengai
C: European model (hasn't been sold in the UK for some years now)

same engine (even 08 will fit)
the american folk would not understand barrell just like front mudguard ,they call it a fender,remember its a different world over there ,they use 8 litre V8 pick up trucks for mum to go shopping over there ,maybe you need a better parking place

most motorcycles sold in the states have major differences for the californian models due to tighter legislation. These changes include closed carb breather systems (not so much for de-icing but to prevent evaporation of fuel into the atmosphere), spark arrestors and mechanisms for burining off unused hydrocarbons in the exhaust. I am not totally sure what the exact differences are on the kwak, but this might be something to consider. The barrels , head, cases etc should be totally the same, just fuel and exhaust systems might not be.
