Transalp 600 to KLE
Has anybody here gone from a 600 Transalp to a KLE?
By my reconing they are the same albeit for engine configuration. I had two 600 Transalps and am now looking for something similar, but different (I hope that makes sense). I'm looking for reliability (my Transalp set the standard there), simplicity and ease of maintenance (Transalp front tappets are a nightmare), cruising speed/rev (85mph what are the revs).
cheers
Rob

Hi Rob
My '99 kle500 comfortably does about 7500rpm at 85mph. That's with 16/46 gearing. I get around 48-53mpg usually, depending on speed. I've found it super reliable over the last 10000 miles since I've owned it.
Cheers, Rory

I currently own a 600/650 TA outfit and a kle500b6,
The kle is definitely more of a "budget" bike, but was certainly good value. (£2500 with 139 miles on the clock). Tappets are a bit of a faff, involving dropping the coolant, new orings for the pipes etc, but more time consuming than difficult. The engine doesn't have anything like the grunt of the honda, but is fine enough for a farily lightweight machine.
Best thing is the running costs are really low, it will eat pads, but only one set to buy. I get 55mpg with mixed riding. 4500 miles from the rear trailmax.
Keep the brakes well serviced, as they are a bit feeble, and keep on top of corrosion, the paint and other finishes are a bit thin.
The exhaust wont last either. Need to find a stainless replacement, that wont affect the jetting.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
