Dented frontrim

My frontrim has had a dent from before I purchased it. After a little rougher terrain it seems to be worse. Now I can feel that it bounces, especially in lower speed. It got better when I set the rear shock softer. Now I wonder if I should replace it before I head towards South America. There is a company in Denver ( I am in Colorado right now) who offers different solutions. Is it worth the money to upgrade, is it recommended to take a narrower rim? Is it probable that i could run into trouble next time i am offroad with heavy luggage? Any experiences?

You don't say which bike etc
Should you replace it? if your wheel is dinged and you feel it is getting worse then absolutely yes without hesitation-

A 21" front rim will perform better off road. Only you can decide if the expenditure would be warranted-
Many beautiful places are up some trail / broken ground / gravel / compacted earth / sand etc !

In any case, IMHO, I would change the wheel while you can-
In time it is likely to get worse (especially if you are loaded)
and would probably fail somewhere remote where you will not easily or as cost effectively be able to replace it - if at all-
My 2 cents

Bertrand!?
Hey, you were on the German HU meeting last spring, right? I am Toby, the German with the Africa Twin (long blond hair). Right now I am travelling with a KTM 950 ADV. I did not write that specifically cause it is not the first thread about this bike...had some problems..
Guess I will have another, narrower rim and take the old spokes. Everyone recommends Woody in Denver, which is just 3 hours away from where I am right now. Better safe than sorry. I cannot resist all these trails that wait for me just to save my rim : ).
Take care!

So much better with the "new"rim! No bouncing or shaking. I can ride handsfree! Feels very good on dirt, have to get used to the feel on paved roads, in swings and turns though.
Woodys is an awesome shop, even got a cheap tire and some presents, a lot of tips and help!

Glad to hear you are sorted and happy!
Can you post up his workshop Lat & Longitude to help others find him?
thanks Toby

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
