I have only seen 2 this year for sale both on e bay but I think they were sold before the end of auction the asking prices were in the region of £1600.00 - bit steep to say the least. I had enquired about buying a complete engine off KTM as I was going to run my bike 'forever' and swop engines while rebuilding one over a long period but KTM will not sell engine units. Rebuilds are very pricy as the individual parts are priced so high. It may be cheaper to break the bike and re coup what you can or try a rebuild yourself if your feeling brave and hope you dont have to replace to many bits.
I eneded up selling mine simply because it would have cost far to much to keep on the road if it reached a point of having terminal failure - which even KTM state could be as early as 70,000 miles. Shame as they are a brilliant bike and I must say I miss mine as it was such a brilliant all round tool.

help
cheers is , i got a quotation form a KTM service centre to re-build it £1500 inclusive and this wlike as pretty much the whole engine .
the problem is the wrong oil was put in at a service and this caused all sorts of problems like the tappets tightened, up oil starvation, the cam chain guided snapping and being sent round the engine and doing all kinds of trouble and to top it all off the clutch committed suicide . so all in all not goooooooood.
And of course the dealer that put the wrong oil in in the first place has said i must have replaced it before my trip like you would what blocks.
never mind.
but i paid £5700 only three months ago (yes i know i paid over the top but what can i say i sat on it and the rest is history)
what do you , sell and take a massive loss or repair ??

Kep an eye on Ebay, I recently found a 950SE engine on under 5,000 miles for £900 + £60 shipping for a friend. He ended up paying £860 inc, shipping. The breaker in question was Bentleys Breakers.
They are few & far between though. All of the LC8 motors are the same, not sure how easy it is converting a fuel injected 990 to run on carbs & vice versa though?
