Ktm 350 freeride: options to extend its range?

I love my Freeride - i am a crap dirt bike rider but the Freeride masks it beautifully.

On my big Africa trip last year when the going got tough i was out of my depths on my 210kgs XT660z on roads i have been whooping out loud with glee riding my 99kgs Freeride.....

...but a tank range of 60miles doesn't really cut it as a travel bike!

Clearly its never going to be a cross continent tourer but i'd love to give it some sensible range for TET or TAT style riding.

Anyone looked into this?

Going to take as a resounding "no" then!!

There's not much on the web either in the way of solutions so have reluctantly concluded i need to sort a separate lighter weight adventure bike (CRF250 Rally?)

I'll then probably sell the Freeride in due course as, awesome as it is when used in its right context, it unfortunately doesn't really fit with my likely future riding.

Does anyone scratch their heads thinking how can there be so many bike options out there and yet none of them quite hit the spot for what i want?

Assuming you will have to mount some luggage somehow, some extra bracketry for rotopax type fuel cans could be added (other fuel cans are available) Maybe mount some form of saddle bag over the front of the bike (the traditional tank area) containing flexible fuel cans (I've seen collapsable fuel-proof fuel bladders somewhere, can't remember just now, one of Chris Scott's posts?)
If I had an English wheel, and a tig welder, I would be making fuel storage tanks from ally that mount over the front of the bike and take the place of the radiator shrouds. (Find an engineering student in need of a project to design and 3D print a plastic version of this and I think you'd make a fortune!)

I've never bought a vehicle that didn't need modifications to suit my needs!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
