Silencer options on the '97 620 EGS-E Adventure

Hi all,

What a top bike the ’97 620 EGS-E Adventure is! And what an awful exhaust system (dual low pipes) – I’m sure that any ’97 Adventure owner will concur that the standard system chokes the engine somewhat.

Here is the solution I used for the last 2 years: I cut off the left hand pipe as it was just extra weight (it didn’t even got that hot anyway so it was obviously just for looks). I also cut out the inside of the right-side pipe, which freed up the engine nicely in the lower rev range. Great for Asia, but now I’m back in the UK and need to get it through the MOT.

Any self respecting MOT man will laugh me out of town (after he gets his hearing back) – obviously a side effect of cutting out the inside of the pipe is an increase in decibels…. and, as I am getting a bit older in the tooth, I also like the idea of reducing the noise (but without losing power).

Any suggestions? What solutions have other ’97 Adventure owner’s come up with? I noticed Ro’s solution (in the thread below) was to stick on a CBR600 can – any further info about this would be gratefully received (i.e. model no, noise, power, durability, cost, etc):

What other exhaust systems have people found that work well with this bike? Has anyone put on the complete exhaust system from the new 640 Adventure?

Cheers in advance.

Graham.

The compl. system off a 640 fits, but you need the subframe of a 640 as well.

JD Racing in Saltash, UK (01752 848888) used to sell an aftermarket system for the 620 Adventure, maybe they still do. I've also seen a blue Adventure with some arrangement involving header pipes from a 620 and a DAM silencer.

Also a pipe from one of the rally bikes may fit but might be too loud for road use.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
