Land Rover Fuel Economy & Cost per mile
Hi folks,
We have just completed 48,000km through Europe and Africa (west coast route) and wanted to share some info with you on our fuel economy. Our vehicle is a 1997 300tdi with (now) 175,500 miles on the clock.
It would be good to see the economy others get in their Land Rovers, so please feel free to post here.
We kept a log of all the fuel, mileage etc... the basic data was calculated using the land rover ODO. The corrected data is using the Sat Nav mileage. Somewhere between these numbers is the ball park economy we achieved (circa 28 mpg)
Basic mpg = 29 mpg
Basic km/100l = 1022 km / 100l
Corrected mpg = 27.6
Corrected km/100l = 973 km / 100l
Cost per mile = £0.13
Cost per mile = € 0.14
Cost per mile = ZAR 1.38
We spent a total of £3,707 on fuel at an average cost of £0.75 / litre.
Cheapest fuel was in Angola £0.27 / litre & Western Sahara £0.4 / litre.
Most expensive was UK at £1.22 / litre
We always made a point to fill up when and where we could (100 litre tank), carried at least 1 x 20l spare Jerry can of fuel. We always "tried" to fill up at branded fuel stops and had a sedimentor on our fuel line - this did take out a lot of muck (we cleaned it out once on the trip). Fuel in Nigeria is very dirty and we only ever bought black market fuel once. When we changed the fuel filter it was pretty clean each time.
Look forward to building up a good list here.
Cheers
Nick
