ex-MOD Defender colour issue?

Hi,

I have a green UK ex-MOD Defender.

DEFENDER PHOTO

Is there anyone with experience on taking these military coloured vehicles into Egypt/Sudan/Jordan?

I am not planning to repaint, but thought if I get some advertising on the doors and perhaps paint to wheel rims pink it should be OK :confused1:

Does anyone have suggestions or experience with a similar situation?

Regards,
Fred

White?

Similar questions in the past have had a broad concensus that military camoflage colouring is not a great idea for traveller vehicles, but especially in areas of current or recent conflict.

Neither is pink a great idea - you may be familiar with its' use for military camo:-

Why not plain white to reflect heat?

ex-MOD Defender colour issue?

Thank you for your thoughts.

I am going to import the car in SA so I would prefer to keep its original MOD paint job as much as I can.

I guess there are two aspects - entry ban at a border post (which I obviously want to prevent), and exposing myself inside a country.

I am going to get some sponsored colorful ads on all 4 doors. OK, with pink aside, I am willing to paint the wheels to match the ads in some way. The car is strictly speaking green, so it is not a hard-core camo job ...

Is there any known rumors of these "green" defenders/jeeps getting refusing for entry somewhere in Africa?

My U500 and camper are dark blue. Not good for heat reflection but very hard to see when camped in the dark - a good thing. And obviously not a military color.

Depending on your budget, you could have the car foil wrapped or at least use some big pieces of foil. That will keep the car original and is much easier to apply and remove.

Here's one for keeping the heat out(chrome wrapped):

My camper used to have a polished aluminium roof which got so hot in the sun I needed about three layers between me and it so I didn't get burned.

I then painted it white and its cool to the touch all the time.

I had thought the previous shinyness would reflect the heat but was surprised how entirely wrong I was

I'd paint the landy white, or Limestone cos thats nice. Ex MOD Landies often have so many layers of paint they may have blue, camo, white, pink, red, khaki etc under there somewhere anyway Although your paint does look in good nick

I believe there are some specific regulations about removing military equipment from the UK/importing it into other countries so you need to demilitarise it as much as possible.

be careful with white it doesn't just look like the UN! Likewise sand colour, OG or camo are a no no

Green military should not be a problem in Egypt due to its desert camouflage (yellowish) therefore in Egypt your landy color should not be a problem.

It will be considered just a color not more.
