Help stuck in Turkey

Hello people

I am currently on the boreder between Turkey and Iran and my Defender has just developed a fault with the temp gauge.

The needle suddenly wet all the way to the max and will not come down even when the engine as been off over night. I have checked the wire from the top of the engine and even when I disconnect it the needle stays in the red. The wires behind the dash, all look ok.

The car is running fine but don't really wont to go much further into Iran without a temp gauge.

Any ideas? do i need a complete new gauge?

Thanks for any help

It sounds like it's just the gauge. Get a new one.
If you need help in Turkey you could try a friend of mine who runs a great off road club there.
His name is Umit Cikurel. e-mail umit@discovery-tr.com

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Matt

What steve/m said... If the earth off of the "case" of the guage comes adrift, then the needle pings right to the top.

there should be a loop of (usually black) single core cable that loops from the back of each guage then down into the main dash harness.

It fixes under the thumbscrew that holds the "U" shaped bracket in place.

the cable snaps off of the crimped on ring.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
