Funding a School on the Thai/Burma border.
Nov 2004 we left Brisbane and flew into Singapore to start our overland trip to the UK. Travelled up through Malaysia and into Thailand and up to Bangkok. After a trip to Kanchanaburi we set off to the border town of Mae Sot (Thai/Burma border). Whilst there we found out about the 200,000 refugees living in the refugee camps and stayed there for 6 months working as teachers with the refugee groups. We then flew home from Thailand to get jobs in the UK. POINT of The THREAD: you never know what experiences life will throw up when you try something!
We now sponsor a school on the Burma border for refugees and will visit in August 2007. We are considering a ride from UK to the school on thai/burma border in Jan 2008 to raise awareness under the "Education for All" banner. If anyone would like to visit the school, find out more about the school or our trip, or help us with funding the school or raising awareness of our trip etc, we would love to hear from you.

Interesting, I was thinking about doing something along those lines. Are you teachers? I'm not, so is there anything I could usefully do there?
Cheers,
Peter.

PM me with banking details. glad to help on a monthly basis. I retire soon from 13 years at Dankook U. teaching English, and when going through that area would happily teach for a place to sleep.

Thank you all for your interest. Beddhist, we are both teachers and wendy taught English in Mae Sot at the Mae Tao clinic and with the Karen Education Department and I taught computers. Wendy also did some craft activities each afternoon at the clinic in the children's ward. If you go to Ban Thai guest house in Mae Sot and find Thant, offer your services and he will sort it out for you.
Hindu, I have sent a PM to you1
Thanks again
Andrew and Wendy

Hi,
Is this ride on? I'm in the area now and I have time on my hands.
Ciao,

Good Work!
Thanks for helping out along the border. I have traveled to Burma and Thailand many times and have seen first hand the difficult conditions that people live under in the camps. I also have been helping to fund some IDP schools and help some orphans in the camps.
Again Thanks,
Land Sailor

Finally on the Border
Well the ride from the UK didn't happen for a number of reasons. We are, however, on the border and planning to stay here for a while. Our bikes are supposedly arriving in the next 4 weeks, been delayed twice already in UK. Hoping they have sailed!!!
We have set up a blog for anyone interested in what we are up to.
Noh Pa Doh Border Aid
If you want any info, get in touch.
Many Thanks
Andrew

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
