Buting and selling bike in mid-east?
I'm thinking of touring through the middle east next spring, perhaps around Easter, but because of the distance (I'm in Australia) I don't want to ship a bike there and home again. I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent, trustworthy places where I could buy a bike (say in Turkey or Syria), and how to dispose of the bike afterwards without getting ripped off. The other option would be to hire a bike, but I wasn't planning on doing a circuit, so the bike would have to be picked up in Turkey and left in Israel or Jordan. Any help would be appreciated.

i dont know about Turkey or Syria, but I live in Saudi Arabia, why dont you consider flying into Dubai where you can get an excellent bike for a good price, then ride to Turkey, from Dubai to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is about 1100km then from Riyadh to Amman is 1400km ... or you can fly into riyadh you can get a good bike for a good price but not as much choice as Dubai ..
Northern Saudi arabia is great to ride through ,,, i'll never forget my ride last march

I'm Dutch and living in Damascus.
Bikes (>150cc) are not allowed for local people in Syria and Jordan. Tourists can get a temporary permit.
Buying or selling a bike will be very difficult I'm affraid.
Touring trough the Middle East and Turkey on a bike is realy great; nice people and beautiful countries.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
