Carnet/TIP info for Lebanon
Can I obtain a TIP for taking a privately owned bike into Lebanon out of Turkey? I have read that I can purchase a TIP to get into Syria. 2 import permits will be much cheaper than a carnet, yes?
Now I have your attention..
I plan on buying a bike in the UK ( I'm from Oz). Can I register (pay road tax?) without being a resident?
Can someone recommend an insurance company that will insure the bike for a few months? Is that the 'green card'? I've emailed a few, but have to date, been ignored.
cheers

I reckon if it's possible into Syria, then very probably TIPped entry should be possible for Lebanon too.
At least we're hoping for it...
When are you going btw? Maybe see you on the road!
Re: vehicle insurance. I'll take a look into my Green Card in the evening if it really covers that region, but I'm afraid it does not. Out of the far reaches of EU you usually can only buy local insurance (probably useless if something really happends with your vehicle) or buy very very expensive hull insurance from some specialized company and even this doesn't give you a full guarantee - it's a "third world" traffic and risks for them you know...
Health insurance is a must and (mostly) works too, mind.
Ride safe, Margus

Carnet and TIP
Margus,
thanks for the info. I chased up some info on a Green Card and yes, it won't work in the Middle East or maybe not Russia and Ukraine. We'll just buy insurance at borders.
My trips still 10 months away, I'm just trying to get most of the planning done so I can worry about the bike and visas later.
3 of us are touring from the UK ( after the 2008 IoM TT) down thru Turkey to Syria and then up around the Black Sea and back to London in 6 weeks, about 14,000km.
We will certainly have health insurance!!
Good luck on your trip,
paul

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
