EGYPT and JORDAN by vehicle from TURKEY
Hi,
I have read many useful forums on entry into Port Said (from Iskendarun). This sounds more than painful, and expensive involving a fixer guy to handle customs on your behalf.
We are planning to enter Egypt in about a month (Port Said waiting out the current curfews), but then divert to and from Jordan (Nuweiba <-> Aqaba) via ferry, after which we reenter Egypt (at Nuweiba) and then head south to Aswan to exit into Sudan.
Is sounds some other forum discussions that the Nuweiba <-> Aqaba entry is far less painful and does not require any such serious "processing" money
If anyone can update me with some recent experiences and opinions, I would be very grateful.
We hold South African passports.
Regards,
Fred

Hi Fred,
I have answered in the other, similar, thread as follows:
Well, I have not tested the Turkey to Egypt (or before the Italy to Egypt) option, but from what I read I would suggest that the Nuweiba - Aqaba ferry is relatively easier. Entering Egypt took me five hours last year with the help of an officer from the Tourist police. Without him it would have been a lot more difficult. In fact I was the first driver to exit the port of Nuweiba with 23 Egyptians still stuck ...
On the Jordanian side everything is fairly well organized and should not take more than an hour at most.
Greetings,
Achim

I think Nuweiba is easier (though I have only ever exited there not entered) but it is essentially the same procedure and the same charges (except for the fixer which will be cheaper). I suspect that having entered once at Port Said the last thing you'll want to do is go through it all again (and pay the same fairly substantial costs) to exit and then reenter Egypt again. The ferry is also a big cost especially in two directions.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
