KTM in Oman or Dubai?
Hey guys
I have just moved to Oman to work and am residing in Sohar. My work is close to the UAE border about an hour from Dubai.
I am looking to get a bike here or from the UAE and was thinking of a KTM 650 Adventure?? I have a R1200GS in Oz but I think it is too heavy for here? I would apprieciate if you or anyone knows of something for sale.
Cheers guys

Hi Ivan
Welcome to the area. There are always bikes for sale in Dubai but how much do you want to spend? What's the oldest you'd be interested in? What about XR650s or other KTMs? The more specific you are the easier it might be to help.

Still looking for that illusive KTM
Hi Stephano,
I looked at a new BMW 650GS in Muscat the other day. They are asking 4200 OMR and a R1200 is 6300.
I would like to get something 2nd hand, not so keen on the 650 Honda, had a couple before. And as I would like to ride 2 up at times I was thinking of the KTM or BM. Are there many 2nd hand ones over your way?
Cheers
Ivan
Oh do you ever come down to Sohar??

I was there briefly just before the last Eid. Would like to visit again. There are still a few Omani forts left to see...
If I see or hear of any 2nd hand bikes suitable for two-up I'll let you know.

There isn’t much that matches your requirement of two-up capability secondhand in Dubai at the moment.
These are the closest as a price guide:
MotorcycleCity
KTM 525 2003 18,000 negotiable
Suzuki DR350 1999 only 400km 14,000 dirhams
Sandstorm Motorcycles
Honda XR650 2003 unknown mileage 13,500 dirhams
If you are ever in Dubai, make a point of checking the ‘for sale’ boards in the large Spinneys branches especially in Jumeirah & Umm Sequim. They very often have bikes advertised as the boards are free. Bikes sold at the outlets above are subject to commission paid by the seller so naturally people prefer the Spinney’s boards.
I'll keep my eyes open.

Hi Ivan
You can also check the Gulf news classifieds at http://www.gulfnews.com/classifieds/.../Motor_Cycles/
I recently bought a KTM 950 from Tristar which is great but can confirm the service is awfull, don't order anything whatever you do.
Hi Stephan
I was in touch with you earlier (the guy who lives near the beach towards Ajman). Just got back from a long trip working in Qatar, we should meet for a some time.

Good idea, Brad,
Maybe at the Outside Inn [N25 24.106 E55 25.649] to watch the sun go down... I'm guessing it's fairly near you.

Ktm 640
Hi Ivan
Theres a 1998 KTM 640 at tristar for Dhs 14000, see website.
It might be a bit old given the possible long down time if it gives any hassels.
Will be going round this week if youre interested.

Dubizzle is a good place to look. Seems that there are always people packing up, selling up and leaving.
There are some great spots to explore up in the Hajar not far from Sohar. Camping in Oman is good fun.
