Insurance for this trip

Ferry goes from Dubai or Sharjah into Iran. Then you are "accompanied" across Iran and onto the Turkish Border, where I guess you need another Visa.

As long as you've owned the Jeep for more than 6 months you shouldn't get hit with Export or Import Tax.
You need a Carnet de Passage and need to de-register it in Dubai before travelling. That's what I know so far!

Trying to check this out... but if you're still planning and haven't gone be good to swop notes. Cheers Jonny

PS: I've also got a Jeep Wrangler in Dubai - JK
I'm planning the same trip by motorcycle when I return to the UK next year (if things are still ok in Iran). I would be very interested in how you cope with the insurance side of things as I can't seem to find anyone who would accept this trip.

Things are not ok in Iran and it is just as bad now as it was in March mate unfortunately. You will encounter great difficulties if you hold a UK passport also. Regards insurance? What type? Travel/medical or for the vehicle?

Hi,

I'm looking at the same trip on a motorbike, thou.

I've read soo many differing stories & advice, its a job sorting out which is credible. Been to a few travel agents each one has a different take on it.

https://notjustatourist.com/country-...c=54da795e6521

Found the above, then on Youtube theres a channel called Itchy boots that did the ferry across to Iran, it looked pretty easy in all fairness.

Looking around end of this year or possibly next.

Cheers

Jim

Hi guys... I have been trying to find any information for a trip to the UK, though I would be starting in KSA. I would then like to take a ferry to Montreal for the Vehicle.

Any previous experiences would be appreciated.

Hi,

Did you get anywhere with driving from KSA up to Turkey, only problem i could see was Syria, getting visas, and some sort of easy passage through.

Ive looked at riding through KSA, get a ferry to Egypt, then ferry to Greece, then pick the route up again.

Cheers

The Syria Turkey border is firmly closed to civilians (apart from humanitarian convoys) and has been for many years, so forget that route.

A couple of weeks ago, Syria restarted issuing tourist visas (for private, guided tours only), so you could get through there to Lebanon where there is a very expensive ferry from Tripoli to Tasucu in Turkey.

There is no ferry from Egypt to Greece.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
