UAE to Iran by ferry with a car, then on to Russia by ferry/ship
Has anyone done this recently?
Assuming I can get a Saudi transit visa to drive from Sudan to UAE...I plan to arrive in Iran by car from UAE (ferry across the Persian Gulf), and exit Iran by ferry/ship to Russia on the Caspian Sea.
Does anyone have any experience or information about these routes?
I have a Carnet but Iran is not listed...to be exact it is crossed out on the back cover. Yes, I know this may cause me problems but I've heard of people entering Iran without a Carnet.
I have a feeling it's more complex if you plan to arrive by ferry because the ferry company has to be convinced that you have all the correct documents for entry before they sell you the ticket.

I did UAE to Iran by ferry with a motorbike, had to have a carnet to get the ticket. The ferry goes from Sharjah to Bandar Abbas on Sunday evening and I think Thursday evening, turn up the day before to start the paperwork, carry your passport, vehicle owership certificate and carnet everywhere and have 5 copies of them all. Once you arrive allow at least 2 days to get into Iran, you may have to get Iranian number plates for your car, that takes a day. (We got away without them, but that may have been as we were on bikes). The hassle factor is imense, but Iran is delightful, worth the effort!

That's the problem, they will not sell you the ticket without Carnet. I do have Carnet but Iran is crossed out on the back cover which in theory makes the Carnet not valid for Iran...I may or may not get the ticket.
Looks like I have to abandon my plans to go from Sudan to Saudi (which I need to somehow get a transit visa for) then to UAE then Iran. It's too big a risk not knowing if I can get a ticket for the Ferry. If I'm not able to head to Iran I would be stuck in UAE as it's not possible enter Jordan via Saudi. Is there a ferry to Iraq???
Looks like a have to go from Sudan to Egypt then find a way to go further north...ferry to Europe or Turkey has been canceled and going via Syria is not an option.
Any suggestions?

How did your trip end up?
Hello - I ran across your post researching a trip I am planning from UAE through Iran and was wondering if you can offer any insight into getting into Iran from Sharjah. What paperwork was required to enter Iran, how long did it take, and most importantly, did you enjoy your time in Iran?
Hope to hear from you,
Jeff
