I did UAE to Iran by ferry with a motorbike, had to have a carnet to get the ticket. The ferry goes from Sharjah to Bandar Abbas on Sunday evening and I think Thursday evening, turn up the day before to start the paperwork, carry your passport, vehicle owership certificate and carnet everywhere and have 5 copies of them all. Once you arrive allow at least 2 days to get into Iran, you may have to get Iranian number plates for your car, that takes a day. (We got away without them, but that may have been as we were on bikes). The hassle factor is imense, but Iran is delightful, worth the effort!
