Passport checks are always done on the Algerciras - Tanger Med Ferry, if you disembark without having them done you'll get sent back on board to be processed.
There'll be a desk set up on the main seating cabin with a laptop and paperwork. Fill in you immigration card join que and get the passport stamped. Fairly Straight forward but not the Police/Customs Officers is often not in uniform

The xe.com rate on the day was just over 11 Dh to the euro. For me 10.5 Dh was worth it to have cash in hand for the insurance.

They didn't take credit cards when you passed through then?

Credit cards are generally not accepted in Morocco other than at high-end establishments as merchants don't see why they should pay commission to Visa/Mastercard whatever. You will generally be pointed to the nearest ATM and told to get cash.

Like Tim said, but Marjanes will take payment by card and the Afriquia fuel stations ajacent do too, normally...
The insurance office at TangerMed will accept payment in either dirhams or euros.

Just for info and picking up on a point made by Tim earlier in the thread, I did get a random insurance check by Police recently, but it was in WS from memory.
Interestingly, the Police (WS again) who wanted to discuss their private income for 85kmh in an 80 zone weren't interested in insurance at all

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
