Campsite in or near Rabat?
Hi there!
Anyone knows of a place to camp in Rabat or near the city. We want to stay the night in order to get our Mauritania visa the next day. Any suggestion is welcome.
Cheers,
Kars

After some hefty research recently, pretty sure the answer is no! If you're in a vehicle, you can just stay in the next street, we did a few weeks ago with no real bother. On a bike, i guess you'd be best to find a guest house or hotel nearby.

Thanks Sammy,
I thought so. We'll drive there today and have a look. It's probably gonna be the street.

In a word no.
We ended up staying in a cheapo hotel in the medina. Opposite the medina on Avenue Hassan II there is a manned secure underground carpark that is not expensive. We spent a week there (travelling in a Landcruiser) while sorting out our Mauritania visas.

We ended up spending a night in a hotel as well. Next morning we got there early and we were the first ones in line. We got our visa within 5 hours. No problems at all. For future travellers, please note you can only apply in de morning from 09.00- till 12.00 from Monday till Thursday.
Question from us; we forgot to enter a entry date for Mauritania, so we got our visa valid from the date of appliance for 30 days! Valid till december 1st. Does anyone know if we have to be in Mauritania before 1 December, or do we also need to have left the country by then?

Obviously since the camp site in Rabat (over the river in Sale) closed down, camping has been an issue.
We did find a half decent camp site in Skhirat, which is approx 25kms south of Rabat on the OLD coastal highway to Casablanca. It's signposted. It's in the grounds of a hotel, but has a large grassy area with facilities. Quite a few other overlanders there.
