Leave a car in Dakhla for three weeks - customs?

Seems pretty straight forward to leave a vehicle at the airport customs in Marrakech for a few weeks while renewing visa out of country - - anyone have any information on similar procedure at airport in Dakhla? Doable?

It should be possible at any airport or seaport with a customs office. You will need to sign a document and hand over the keys. The clock still ticks on your six months maximum vehicle stay.

There's a Douanes (customs) office at Dakhla airport. The vehicle storage (that I visited) is in an unmarked and unstaffed warehouse elsewhere in town. I'd expect someone to guide you there.

Thanks guys - appreciate the replies.

Two wheels - did anyone at the airport douane speak english, and how dodgy did the warehouse setup look? Well locked? Would you have felt ok leaving a vehicle there?

I dealt with them in my basic French. But I'd expect the younger staff to be well-educated and to have some English.
They were all obliging and professional - from the security man at the gate to the head honcho and his aides. The storage charges were calculated accurately. To mention a discount would have felt insulting.

A letter for the customs at my port of exit was written up as I waited - in the head honcho's office, on a Friday afternoon.

The warehouse is just that - with a sturdy metal door and a bolt and padlock. I doubt that any local scally would choose it to burgle, risking the wrath of the authorities.
There were many other vehicles in thw warehouse too. Some for a very long time judging by the layer of dust.

Personally I wouldn't be worried about the security of the vehcle. Maybe concerned that they may need to move it to get another car out. But if your battery is disconnected...

I found this address on the MA customs site but that's not the location I recall. I'd say the location is closer to here. No streetview availble to check. Any taxi driver should find it for you.

Super, thanks for the links. Not sure of my final plan yet but nice to have a head start on a southern option.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
