Since we will arrive in Algeciras a day ahead of our fellow travellers we are buying the tickets.
What kind of information of the other cars/owners/passengers does Carlos need if I am buying tickets for them?
Anyone who can advise us what the easiest and cheapest way of crossing is? We don't mind taking the same Algeciras - Tanger slow ferry again but maybe the Tarifa - Tangiers or Algeciras - Ceuta alternative option is a better one?

First time to Morocco for us - we are a family of 4, taking a Land Rover 110 CSW 110 plus caravan to Morocco this August 2009. Ferry operators we have checked (Algeciras to Ceuta) are very expensive. We have received quotes of circa £1,000+ just for this 30 mini trip each way.
Transmediterranea for example quotes 1018 Euros (fixed return) with caravan and 622 Euros without.
We have found that going via the agencies such as Direct Ferries - Ferry Crossings UK to Ireland, France, Spain, Holland and more, Ferries - Book Cheap ferries to France, Ireland, Holland and other European ferry crossings etc. more expensive than going direct to ferry line website direct and booking
Cheapest quote we found direct with Balearia is approx 660 Euros - includes both vehicles, 2 adults & 2 children (fixed return dates).
Still a huge amount for this 30 minute journey.
Anyway, broke this down in more detail and works out as follows:
Per Child costs approx: 30 each way / 60 return
Per Adult costs approx: 45 each way / 90 return
4x4 Vehicle: 112.50 each way / 225 return
Caravan: 58.50 each way/ 117 return
We have pretty tight requirements in terms of entry/exit dates and given the 2-vehicle/high season/busy period scenario we're in - will Carlos be our man? Have tried to contact by email, phone, mobile but no joy. Thoughts? Should we book with B or turn up to see C at Lidl's and hope for the best?

here is my experience from beginning of May 09 as copied from my trip report:
Before leaving the UK we had agreed that we would take the Algeciras- Ceuta route by fast ferry as it we all felt that this would be quicker, and allow us to shop in the tax free enclave of Ceuta.
Unfortunately we had no tickets.
We chose initially to visit the ferry port and see what price we could source from the touts down there- we had a target of €220. Arrived at the port in Algeciras to find around 18 different touts in 2 diferent halls. Pikey and I took one hall each- price started at €310, but after around half hour we had the price down to €240 which was good enough for us not to hunt for Carlos. After a brief conflab to check that everyone was happy with this price, we returned to the selected tout to pays our money and get our tickets. Imagine our surprise to hear that the touts now wanted €290/vehicle return- it would seem that as we had “dared” to ask for the best prices at various offices, we were now “black listed” for the good prices! Be warned.
This was enough of a piss-take for a unanimous decision to find another supplier- a quick drive out of the city along the east coast saw us follow signs for a ticket office enar the Carrefou supermarket and McDonalds. Unbenownst to us we had found the infamous “Carlos behind Lidl’s”. The door was initially locked, but young girl eventually turned up and supplied us with tickets for €250/vehicle- not the €220 I had been quoted, but at that point I didn’t actually realise we were at Carlos’!
All ticketed up we disappeared back through Algeciras and slipped onto the Hi Speed Cat about 10 mins before it was due to leave- they really don’t care what time you turn up!

I paid 231 Euro return Algeciras- Ceuta for one adult and Landcruiser. This was from a booth between Malaga and Algeciras, not a special price but it was around the price I was expecting to pay.
Yes it's expensive but I just considered it as part of the whole trip cost.

Have the prices changed much since last year. Would a Landcruiser 80 with 2 PAX return be attainable for 240Euros for crossing in June/July?

This year in April I paid 220 Euro open return Algeciras- Ceuta for one adult and Landcruiser.
This was from a booth around Algeciras
So looking at my last years post above its was a little cheaper.
IMO the price between a cheap and expensive ticket is not great enough to spend to much time shopping around, I would rather hit the border early for an easy crossing than spend time in Spain saving a few Euro.

I think it must depend on the time of year too (ie busy or quiet period).
In september 2009, I turned up at Algeceiras with 11 people in a Mercedes truck. They were pretty keen on our business. Believe it or not, we got the price down to 145 euros for the vehicle, and 3.5 Euros per passenger all included. Much cheaper than some of the prices listed here, and this was with a 7 meter long truck. Hope that helps in knowing what the price could be obtained for, but of course maybe prices have increased recently.

That was for one person James, I'm guess maybe 35-40Euro return more for another person.
One of the reasons I buy from the booths within 10 miles of th ferry is because you can just book on the next ferry saving time, on my four trips on the ferry we never had to wait at all, there seems room on all ferries and a ferry runs at least every hour during the day. (ish)
The only thing to check is that the company you use runs frequently for your return trip, I have used both Acciona and FRS without waiting long on the way home. It also seems that you don't pay anymore for an open return so it's well worth going for that.
I met people who had paid 170 Euro from Carlos (in April) return for a Landcruiser and either one or maybe even two people, but that was Algeciras - Tanger.
It also seems that new port Tanger Med is up and running.

Anyone have any idea how much it will be in August return from Algeciras to Ceuta for a Landcruiser 80 with a small trailer and 4 passengers. Between 400-500Euros?

Just paid 100euro for G Wagen and driver from Carlos . 65euro for motorbike and rider over the internet. straight on next ferry to Tangier Med where nobody has much idea what is going on but friendly enough.
ps. the door handles are already falling off the new booths
I put the cb in my luggage but left the gps on the dash - they weren't sure but then said it was fine.as we arrived late at night we just drove to the first services on the autoroute and put up the roof tent - the attendants were happy to have us.there weren't any beuro de change at the port that I could see , we had some dirhams but if by chance you haven't the petrol station will take euros and give you enough dirhams for the toll on the auto route.
