URGENT HELP - Morocco on a UK Bike - Documents

Sorry for the capital letters but I need some urgent help, I arrive at the Moroccon border with spain on Saturday to catch a ferry.... and need to get into the counry with as few hassles as possible...

I am doing the Tarifa - Tanger crossing...

Q1) If I arrive on a UK bike, with my UK number plate, and my UK V5 document.. but no Insurance... can I buy insurance when I get to Tanger? How much for 1 month? Is it easy? How long will it take? etc?

Q2) What other documents apart from a V5 would I need? i.e. Road Tax? MOT? Etc?

Q3) (my other option) I turn up on a Portuguese Bike... With a Portuguese number plate... Portuguese Insurance... BUT no Log book (V5 equivalent...)...

Suggestions?

Many thanks, please help,

Tony.

"I am doing the Tarifa - Tanger crossing.."

Hi,did that crossing in march on a uk registered bike, your v5 should be sufficient, take a few photo copies,(always keep original).Once you get through border formalities(with the help of a "fixer",well worth A few euros)insurance booths on Moroc side.If I remember correctly it cost about 80 euros for one month. Was never asked for mot etc.The whole procedure of getting through Moroc border, getting insurance etc took us about 2 hours,(including tea with fixer!).Oh aye, there will be a Moroc official on the ferry, fill in his form save you a lot of time when you get to Tanger.Goodluck.

you will need temporary importation documents look for links on the hubb with details on filling in, you do not have to use a fixer approach a uniform and ask were to go its free,i did not buy insurance for maroc and was neverasked at any of the many, many police and army checkpoints i was stopped at, they did want copies of my passport with the maroc ID number you are given on entry and your job,
hoe this helps

There's more on docs, including TVIP online, here:

I agree fixer is not needed, but avoiding insurance is a bad idea - we had that discussion already.

Sorry to thread hijack but have a related question.

We're planning on riding to Marocco on decomissioned british army MT350 and MT500 bikes.

As these bikes are all milatry bikes and still kahki in colour (Most have the rifle holder attached). Is this likely to be a problem?? or as long as we have the correct paper work and carnet will this be ok??

They can be a bit sensitive about overtly military stuff. We always advice our customers to no wear DPM or any obvious military kit.

In the past I've been questioned at Cueta just for wearing plain green British Army lightweight trousers.........and that was leaving Morocco!

Moroccan are keen hunters and fishermen and love wearing camou clothing.

Given some of the ex-military six-wheelers people bring into the country a couple of khaki bikes won't be a problem.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
