Free Morocco and Western Sahara map

Here you go. Follow this link for a free map of morocco and western sahara, its got desert pistes on as well as roads.

GPS Vector Map Morocco

I loaded it into mine but havent been there with it. Apparently its pretty accurate though

Also stick the 'Wanderlust' world map on there and support a fellow HUBBer(£25 for a lifelong subscription)

Wanderlust Worldmap

Enjoy

Take a look here for downloadable Garmin compatable maps for various countries. Some are free, some aren't:

NOeGS - GPS-MAG - Kostenlose Garmin Landkarten - Free Garmin maps

I've used the Morocco mapset mentioned above and it's pretty good. The coverage in the north of the country is a bit patchy, especially in the mountains, but all the major pistes further south are accurately represented.

More vector maps

You'll find more free maps at Maps catalogue

The Gabon one is very good. You will need to learn how to use cgpsmapper to load it up to mapsource... then you will also be able to make your own maps..

Agree with the above but would add: purchase a larger microcard.

Not sure what your unit came with but you can upgrade to at least 2 Gb; maybe larger is available and cheap enough now. Then you can carry all these maps at one time.

NB I had all of Europe on my unit this summer and it does increase the unit startup time, perhaps by 20 seconds...

You can also store any other kind of files on a larger card, e.g. document scans. Presumably they won't be read by the Garmin and won't affect the unit. I haven't tried mixing formats on one card so can someone confirm that? Otherwise, use the smaller card that came with the Garmin from the retailer as a back-up to carry other types of files.

Have a look at Tracks4Africa - Mapping Africa, one day at a time . Most overlanders sent their tracks, so you will have the main roads (which can be crap by the way) other travelers took. It is more than a map. Campings, Lodges, ATM and other important stuff like fuel stations are on the map as well.

Cheers
Henk

CNv9? is over 2G now .. I think the 60x only takes upto 2G cards.. 2G cards are cheap ..

I keep a card for each contient .. well Europe East and Europe West are on seperate cards. This leaves plenty of room for your track log - and that should be set to take the most detail possible ... helps improve the maps if you send them to smellybiker!

I use a PDA with G7toCE to downlaod/upload the waypoins and routes .. the 60 keeps those on its main memory not the card so it does run out. The PDA has a memory card where the waypoints/routes can be stored. I also run Oziexplorer onthe PDA so have raster maps on it (usually showing the country, tourist type maps) and teh GPS showing the detail of local roads.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
