Best (paper) road maps / where to buy online?
Hi All,
I'm looking for road maps, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, one map for each country.
What are the best maps, for example Michelin or what? I would ideally like road with terrain. Where can they be bought online?
Appreciate the help.
Irlanski

Stamfords isn't cheap but it is the best place for sourcing maps online in UK/Ireland. Reise maps are generally pretty good.
When are you heading, Im going the same way, starting from Ireland next year, but going via Belarus first?

If you can locate the ISBN number of the maps you require, put that into BookButler.co.uk and it will show which retailer provides them at the best price.

Thanks for that, I'll try Stamfords. I'm heading in May next to Bucharest, Istanbul, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and home through Ukraine Moldova Romania, Hungary and to Cherbourg. May have to push more north in Caucasus region before coming west into Ukraine due to current situation.
Where and when are you going? Where in Belarus are you planning to go?
I have been through Belarus many times and have made some great connections there.

Thanks EMBEE. I suppose my real problem is that I don't know which would be the recommend maps as that was what I was asking, but if I can be recommended some maps then I certainly will try BookButler.co.uk.
Appreciate the help and thanks...

I tend to use Reise Know How maps most often. They usually have the best scale available, are printed on tear free paper that can stand lots of abuse and are available in retail map shops in Europe (I buy them mostly in Germany) for under EUR 10 per map. Don't know where you can get them online. Maybe the Globetrotter chain outdoor gear stores has catalog order. or try Därrs catalog order out of Munich. Reise Know How has maps of most of the world.

It is now possible to buy ripproof ams waterproof paper for ink jet printers. This opens the opportunity to print your own maps from google earth or other sources. Look at OpenStreetMap. The paper is available on Ebay

The excellent Reise know how map of the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) 1:650000 is available from The Map Shop The Map Shop - Climbing Guides, Kompass Maps, Michelin Maps, Online, UK
I can recommend the map and the shop. The shop is cheaper than stanfords and provides a fast and efficient service.
I prefer to use maps when I travel and up until recently I would always use Michelin ones if they were available, but increasingly I look for Reise now when selecting a map. Both are excellent and easy to read.
Hope that helps
Guy
