Convert memory map V4 to v5
For those of you who have been trapped in the version upgrade rip off of the mapping software, a little tip in case you didn't know.
To convert V4 Ordnance Survey maps to run under MM V5, you can edit the map file (use a free Hex editor such as Neo), and simply change where it says 2001 to 2005 - save as a new file - job done!!

Colin, I haven't done this for a while, and I am no technie, but in essence:
Install a hex editor such as the example i stated. Twocows.com is a good link to access free software - and this is where I got mine.
Start the Hex editor and select open new file (or such like), and open one of the memory map files that has suffix .qct.
The file will open, scroll to the very end, and the last part of the text on thr right will read "2001crowncopyright".
Change "2001" to "2005" and then file/save as a new file with the same name but in a new folder.
Now you can open this map from V5 of Memory Map - probably!
p.s. don't blame me if this doesn't work. Make sure you save a copy of the original .qct before you change anything.

Hi talljohn,
Thanks for your PM on a different thread. Please send me your email, as I don't have enough posts to be able to reply back to you in a Personal Message.
Regards,
MM

Hi talljohn / colin.
Did you manage to do this Colin ?
My MM v2004 has just mmi and .qed files not .qct files.
Is mine therefore a different version and not convertible ?
Both versions just show up as a load of mummo jumbo, can't see any dates at all
Many thanks,
Peter

Hi again, talljohn / colin.
Did you manage to do this Colin ?
I have had to reload my corrupted PC, so need to re-install MM again.
Just wanted to re-iterate this tip again, as My MM v2004 has just mmi and .qed files not .qct files. Is mine therefore a different version and not convertible ?
At bottom of the mumbo jumbo, found a copyright date of 2004, so now changed to 2005, and hoping that works !
