Electronic road-book
Hi,
I want to have a road-book. But... I have no place for the big and bulky A4 or A5 road-books. So I started thinking. A LCD-display of 5 cm high and 10 cm wide would fit.
On it I could then show my entry's and some note's.
Now the problem start's, Where do you find a thing like that. I ended with organizers, even a palmtop, but they all have this stupid "auto shut off" function you can not disable.
OK, you got the idea, just a LCD screen that does not shut off after 5 minute's and the posibility to put in some text. I am sure it exists somewhere out there, but I can't find it. I checked every shop and web-site I could think of, so now I ask you all: HELP ME PLEASE
Maarten

Although I’m a gadget freak myself and I messed up with a few custom LCD setup over the years, I would recommend a regular paper road book for it’s simplicity and reliability.
Touratech sells a compact road book that’s ½ the width of regular road books. I’m not sure if that’s the A5 road book you mentioned. It’s 90mm x 130mm x 40mm and takes 60mm wide paper.
My Philips Nino and Compaq PDA (both Windows CE based) do not shut down automatically if connected to a power source. If space on your bike allows, one of these might be a good option. I would strongly suggest you get an Otter Armour box for it though and mount that to the bike. These are protective boxes with a clear lid that lets you view the screen while in the box and use the stylus. The box also some other good options like a belt clip to take the PDA with you off the bike. Here’s the link for Otter: http://www.armorbyotter.com/products.htm
Hope this helps.

Hi A.B.
I know about the touratech compact, but it's not compact enaugh.. If it would be in landscape setup, it would be better.
You are right when you say paper is better, absolutely, and maybe I'll build my own one.
I'll check the link's you mentioned. Good tips about the non shutdown PDA's.
Thanx
Maarten
