In case you missed article about our website in last MEMRider issue, I repost it here:

ADV Tracks: Riders Coming Together To Build a GPX Base

Riding is ridiculous fun. But knowing where to ride isn’t always that easy: while there are lots of destination suggestions, ride reports and detailed travelers’ blogs out there, what if you just want to download a GPS file and go?

‘This question has been on my mind for quite some time now. All those adventure riding blogs and forums out there are great for inspiration. But very often, I’d read a post or a discussion about a particular ADV ride and wonder, how cool would it be if I could just download a track without having to research the maps first? Simply find a destination or a route that I wanted to ride, and get the GPX file of that exact same ride without fuss. And that’s exactly why ADV Tracks was born’, - says Gediminas Cicinskas, co-founder of ADV Tracks.

‘We talked the idea over with my brother, and decided to make it even better: create an online GPX base which would also serve as a social media platform for adventure riders. That way, you could either simply share GPX files or also upload photos, videos and ride reports. In addition to that, members of the ADV Tracks platform can chat with one another on instant messenger, keep up to date with the newest tracks, and follow each other’s journeys. It’s like ADV Rider meets Facebook… only better!’.
How does it work? The registration (also available via Facebook) takes less than forty seconds. Once the user is registered, he or she then creates a profile and can start browsing and downloading GPS files of both on and off - road tracks from anywhere in the world.

From Bhutan to DR Congo

According to Gediminas, ADV Tracks is growing exponentially. ’The whole project is completely community-driven. As the number of our membership grows, so does the database of available GPX tracks. We now store GPX tracks from all over the world including such adventure riding destinations as Bolivia, Bhutan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, and so on. You name it – we’ve got it!’.

ADV Tracks resembles an adventurous mix of Instagram and Facebook for riders: it’s easy to use, members get instant access to other members’ profiles and GPX tracks and can enjoy the ‘like’ and ‘follow’ functions and instant messenger. There are different privacy settings: your ride report, photos and GPX tracks can be public, private, or shared private (only members with a special link can view it). The updated ‘search’ function now allows members to find specific GPX tracks using keywords, countries, cities, and so on in the search criteria.

Click and go

‘ADV Tracks is created by riders, for riders. There are no fees to register or download the GPX tracks. With our new, update mobile version, members can now comfortably browse using their mobile devices, too.Because we aim to make GPX sharing as fun and as easy as possible, we’ve also included such member profile functions as the ability to include and promote their Facebook, Instagram, and other social media profiles, - says Gediminas.
ADV Tracks is all about the global adventure riding community. ‘We aim to provide an easy, instant way to download GPX tracks of the most amazing riding destinations in the world and share the best rides with everyone!’

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
