Google Earth For Travellers
An interesting article about some lesser known features of Google Earth. It's written by a sailor so he talks about boats quite a lot, but the content is just as relevant for overlanders.

Also, the latest Enterprise version Google Earth allows users to download imagery for off-line use. I imagine that this is quite an expensive service, but wonder whether google would be open to negotiation for non-commercial usage.

There is an article here on HUBB that explains how to do that with the free version.

Yes you are right, however the free version will only cache upto 2gigs worth, which isn't a huge amount when are talking about fully zoomed images.

I believe that is not entirely correct, or there is way around it. Using the free version, you plot an area and copy the GE cash into a folder which you can access later at will. Just a matter of writing a new area into a new folder when the cash threatens to overflow.
cheers,
Noel

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
