Chili, Peru and Venezuela are available from third party vendors through Garmin. I don't know about the prices. See this site http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mpc/ for more info.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ollie,
Ive been looking to go to south and central america myself, the best ones I have found online are seperate country road maps from the website: www.maps2anywhere.com
They're an american based company, and the maps are about $12 each, so it wont be really cheap but well worth while, they are of between 1:100'000 and 1:500'000, and show road and track. otherwise there are online maps that you could download and print yourself, rather longwinded but cheaper.
hope this helps you

Hi Grif
Sorry, Patagonia4x4 was the host for the “Project Conosur” a free project created in Argentina to develop GPS compatible cartography for South America. As such it receives collaborations from anyone interested in adding to such effort, which are later compiled and made available for free download. Now the project has a little break, the guy who compiled made his own Web site and there you can find the new cartography for free (by now) and a pay one in the future (the old one was more complete). www.gps.com.ar
A new Project start whit the same community from the first one but the new cartography it will be ready in one or two mouths. http://www.proyectomapear.com.ar/
By now only can propose you if you start your trip from Buenos Aires downloads directly from my computer as I do with to many others travellers.

Hi Javier,
As you know I will start my trip on 6 october from Buenos Aires. I would like to download those maps in my GPS.
Will it work with a Street Pilot or do I need a 2610. How big is the map in MB?
Herbert

Hi Herbert
The cartography are made for any Garmin GPS so is the same if you use the Street pilot or other one, now what I have in my computer is only less than 8 MB and I use it on my Etrex Legend, only bring the cable to connect to the computer, I only have the flat one for the Etrex series.
We will be waiting you!!!!!!

I cant quite seem to be able to get hold of these SA GPS maps. www.gps.com.ar has let me register, but when I try and download I am told that I am not authorised to download (see below)
Any ideas, any chance you could email them or post them. I am most interested in Chile, Argentine and Peru If possible. I have Garmin Quest.
Thanks!
dave

Wanderlust World Map
This world map is for the Garmin GPS. Seems to provide as good a set of maps of Central/South America as I could find.
Web site is Wanderlust Worldmap
Good luck.

Wanderlust
The wanderlust maps seem really good, I havent field tested them yet but they seem to be at least as good as Garmin World Map and much much better in other areas.

Alternative free map source
Check out my post...Free maps for everyone, everywhere, they do not have much detail of streets in towns however. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...erywhere-25843
The programme was made by a Brazillian, so I would think S.America is quite well served. Site is in both English and Portugues.
I'll give everyone a review of how it stands up in a couple of years when I return from field testing it.
