Linking Garmin GPSMAP 278 to a Laptop - problems
Hi Folks,
Has anybody got experiance of running a Garmin GPSMAP 278 (or variant) to a Laptop using a USB cable for Memory Map software to provide a real time GPS track? My laptop runs Memory Map, and presently is not seeing the GPS all the time. It is becoming a pain! (I had a Garmin GPS 60 previously and this worked just fine)
If I start the computer and Memory Map first, and once these are running, then turn on the Garmin GPS then Memory Map is able to see the GPS and provide a constant position marker.
However if the Garmin starts first then Memory Map doesn't see the GPS, or gives a error message of "Garmin does not support D800 protocol".
I have loaded the USB drivers provided, but without sucess.
What next?
Regards
Alex

Hello Alex,
See my thread here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...mory-map-45443
I will be using a 276c as a back up to memory-map on my tablet pc. The pc is attached to an Evermore GPS via the USB.

For some reason I seem to have a software clash, in that MM doesn't always see the 278. it will only see the 278 if I start the laptop first, allow it to boot up and then switch on the 278 (with a Garmin GPS 60 it didn't matter what order I turned the equipment on in, MM would always pick the 60 up).
Very puzzling as I understand that the USB connection with the Garmin will allow MM to see it at all times.
All thoughts are welcome, I think my next move is to try GPS gateway and see if that resolves my problem.

Alex
