Navigation options with IOS?
Rightoh, I'm back in the saddle after a break of 6 years and hitting Africa again next week. Technology has advanced rapidly around navigation since I last looked into it etc. I used to use a Garmin 276c with tracks4africa and openstreetmap downloads.
I now have an iPad (with GPS) and iPhones for backup.
What software would be a recommended setup for IOS? I'll mainly be in the southern half of the continent. I've not heard good things about tracks4africa on IOS....

If you don't need to manage/record tracks and just want mapping and basic routing then Maps.me does a pretty decent job and uses Open Street Maps. It doesn't have the features that your Garmin hardware unit does but a lot of people don't really use all those features anyway. I tend to so prefer hardware over the apps but often find myself using both.
But don't rely on the routing of either and seek local advice before heading down a track/road suggested by Maps.me. The app is good and can do good routing but the information available in the maps themselves is often outdated and doesn't take road damage or security into account.

There is a navigation application for iOS called 'Sygic' that works offline.
I have used it for several years and am quite happy with it.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
