Openstreetmaps replaced by BBBike

I want to start a new thread because of this change that seems to have occurred in the last few months. So any advice that pre-dates this may not be helpful.
I have used maps from garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ for a number of years and downloaded to Basecamp (for planning) and uploading the routes to my Garmin Zumo for navigating.
The website is now saying it is non-operational and redirects the user to garmin.bbbike.org. and www.openstreetmap.org
However the maps are now only good for the Garmin and cannot be used with Basecamp. A work-around is to do the planning in Basecamp WHILE CONNECTED to the Garmin - it uses the map you installed on the Garmin, but is slower and it means that you cannot plan routes unless the device is connected.
The problem seems to be that BBBikes only send you an .IMG file whereas Openstreetmaps sent an .EXE file. Apparently the executable program converts the file to the right formats/ permissions etc for use with Basecamp.
Does anyone know how to convert the .IMG file to a Basecamp format (for IT dummies like me). Or some other website or method to provide maps in both formats?
There is another site alternativaslibres, but they have pre-set map areas - you cannot choose what you want so for the USA you need all 50 state maps in 50 files!

Alternativaslibras seems fairly reliable but as you say, you can't define areas. This side of the water they do country by country, bit of an annoyance when you can pass though 3 countries in a day in Europe.

It is not a problem- get your paint brushes over to your p.ms for a simple solution

Yes, I could tell you but then...I'd have to send you on a walkabout

Cool Thanks

Grant for fixing the quotes code issue - my mistake-
and by the same token:
What a pity I did not get a tiny little 'thanks' from Lee after offering her a solution - and some wonder why less and less knowledge is offered...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
