I've just noticed this topic so apologies if it's too late.
I use a Nokia N73 with Navigator 6 and a Holox GPS receiver bought on eBay.
Works fine in Europe and GPS receiver does not need a clear line of sight to the sky and can be stored in your pocket, tankbag, under you seat, etc. Battery life is acceptable for short trips round town though I've used emergency phone chargers to prolong it to a full day of riding. Battery life of the phone itself is fairly poor when running the software so it will need to be run from a power socket on the bike. The screen is obviously very small but I just put it in my tankbag and go off spoken instructions only. Keeps it discreet and so you can leave it on the bike when you go into fuel stations to pay, etc.
I also have a HTC PDA running the same software as a back up.
If you already have a phone with the Symbian or Windows Mobile operating systems, this software can be found on various bitorrent websites though this would of course be for evaluation purposes only before buying the official product.
